Iced Tea

Iced Tea

Iced tea is the natural drink of choice for picnics! Below you will find a basic iced tea recipe. You may add sliced citrus fruit or flavoured ice cubes (see “Nice Ice Cubes,” below) to make it extra-special.

Ingredients:

5 tea bags
2 Tbsp. sugar syrup, optional, see recipe below

In large heatproof measure or bowl, steep tea in 8 cups (2 L) boiling water for 5 minutes. Discard bags. Stir in Sugar Syrup (if using). Let cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes. Refrigerate until cold, about 2 hours. Serve on ice or for extra flavour try fruit ice cubes (see below).

Sugar Syrup

Combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil. Simmer for approx. 5 min. Let cool. Store in the refrigerator.

Fruit Ice Cubes

If you are looking to add a special touch to your iced tea, try making Fruit Ice Cubes.

Freeze fruit juice (such as lemonade, orange or pomegranate) in ice cube tray. Once frozen, they may be stored in freezer bags.

Freeze fruit (such as berries or citrus slices) in ice cube trays half-filled with water. Top with more water and freeze again. Store in freezer bags.

Freeze herbs (such as mint leaves and rosemary or thyme flowers) by placing herb in ice cube trays half-filled with water. Top with more water and freeze again. Store in freezer bags.
